Four important exhibitions which offer a totally new approach with hundreds of works, an extraordinary editorial initiative and a national meeting on restoration. With a full program of events that will continue throughout all of 2008 and into early 2009, during which Florence will celebrate the most famous of the Macchiaioli, the painter of the epic deeds of the Risorgimento and of views of the Maremma. He died a century ago in a hall of the Accademia di Belle Arti, the institution on Via Ricasoli that he had frequented for 60 years, first as a student and later as a teacher.
The project conceived by the art historian Carlo Sisi, one of the best experts of 19th-century art, together with the exhibition organized by the Gallery of Modern Art of Palazzo Pitti, make up the extraordinary tribute of Florence to Fattori, a program promoted and produced by the Ente Cassa di Risparmio together with the Soprintendenza Speciale per il Patrimonio Storico, Artistico ed Etnoantropologico e per il Polo Museale della città di Firenze – Gallery of Modern Art, under the sponsorship of the Municipality of Florence and in collaboration with Firenze Musei, Fondazione Parchi Monumentali Bardini e Peyron, Accademia di Belle Arti, Alinari National Museum of Photography, Marucelliana Library, Giovanni Fattori Civic Museum - Villa Mimbelli in Leghorn and Centro europeo per il restauro (the European Centre for restoration) (CERR) in Siena.
